December Ice 2008

We had an ice storm that looked beautiful on the days following December 11-12th
Pictures below were taken on December 14th.
Every area looked beautiful.. every branch on every tree was icy, and when the sun shined on it all looked like a scene from a fantasy movie. It looked fake.

However.. all these beautiful views came to end and many trees fell down, branches cracked and fell..
Many people were out of power for days.
Pictures were too beautiful though not too share.

First Snow!

We got our first snow!
First snow flakes some areas got on Oct 21st, but on October 28th we got snowed in!
Schools were closed.
Some areas got over 2 feet of snow.

It was an interesting experience driving down the mountain that day.
While leaving the area, where there was snow all around, you can see a change of season!
Down the mountain, going towards the highway 87 beautiful views of the fall... On the mountain - pure winter!

Unfortunately many trees were damaged. A lot of them still had leaves and the first snow is heavy.
Many homes lost their electricity. Phone lines were damaged as well.

The past few days have been so beautiful around here!

Hunter, NY - Octoberfest

Oktoberfest in Hunter NY featured authentic German and German-American entertainment in the beauty of the northern Catskills in autumn.

Great weather, beautiful view of the Hunter Mountain and live music made this day special for many visitors and local residents with farmers market, plenty of vendors, free crafts and pumpkin painting for the kids, Austrian and German-American bands, Schuhplattler dancers, puppet shows, jugglers, magicians, and much more.

Free Admission made it an affordable and fun time for all ages.

Great News!

We just added a very cute garden swing for our guests to relax on while visiting!
Very comfortable swing for two, (placed right under the tree, across from the bungalow) provides a nice shade.
Enjoy your coffee while listening to the birds!

Irish Festival in East Durham, NY

What a very enjoyable weekend!
31st Annual East Durham Irish Festival held on May 24th & May 25th 2008, on the grounds of the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural & Sports Centre promises. Music was fantastic!

New music from around the US, Canada, and Ireland included:

New this year - 16 time Grammy Award Winning group, The Jimmy Sturr Band with 20 consecutive Grammy nominations and 5 gold albums. The band's two shows were on Saturday.
Also new for 2008 were Canadian groups that have made a name for themselves on the festival circuit: Enter the Haggis and Greenwich Meantime."

Another band from Canada was the "Glengarry Boys". This band had a lot of high energy performing on Saturday and Sunday evenings!

From Ireland, the group "The Screaming Orphans" provided also high energy mix of music.

Shannon McNally from New Orleans, by Way of Hempstead, Long Island. Great voice and interesting arrangements of Blues Rock and Contemporary Country. She has been compared to Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Nicks. Other performances included: The Andy Cooney Band, Celtic Cross, Shilelagh Law, The Prodigals, Kitty Kelly Band, Jameson's Revenge, Calley McGrane and The Exiles, and Kevin and Katie McKrell and The Hard Road Céile Band and St. James Gate, both Capital District favorites. The Albany Police Pipe and Drum Band and the Michael Farrell School of Irish Step Dancing appeared both on Saturday and Sunday. Girls looked as if they were dancing in the air, never touching the ground. The older dancer's costumes were truly gorgeous!

For the children, there were rides and games, along with their very own music tent. Featuring, Driscoll & Smith, with their sing alongs; Carol Spear, Storyteller Extraordinaire; and The First Steps of Irish Dance.

All of this entertainment, along with the craft & product vendors, the food court, and the Children’s rides and entertainment, added up to a GREAT day or two of enjoyment for ALL ages.
